I just read all this. I mean seriously. What DJ, even the most famed of famed has the right to say what can or cannot be played. Get off your high horse and get on the promoters that are booking shitty talent.
I think a 'Please don't play these tracks anymore' thread that everyone can add to would be work well.

it's not about shitty talent. even respected dj's that are good at what they do are overplaying these tracks. Talking to the promoters about shitty dj's is just as "high horse" as talking to everyone else about them.

Sorry for applying a solution to the redundancy of music at our events. These tracks are played out and people need to stop playing them. Tell me you rock out when "Day and Night" comes on. How about "Wheres My Money", do you drop what you're doing and say "OH SHIT!!! WHERE'S MY MONEY??? I LOVE THIS SHIT!!!"

I'm making this statement to raise awareness to better the music. To let people know if they are going to play these tracks they should do something interesting with them.

As a dnb dj, what do you do when you hear someone play Pendulum's Slam mixed out of something basic. Do you go wtf really? or do you sing along "We're marooned on a small island..."

The only person who's opinion i'm taking into consideration that is bitching that i said this is J because being a sound guy he's forced to listen to this shit. But if he's cool with hearing Jack got Jacked, Mr Chips, Rock the Bells and Go Go Gadget Rusko 300 more times then i guess i'll just shut up.

OOH OOH OOH CAN I PLAY TOO?!?

D&B DJs please retire the following tracks:
Everything from Chase & Status's album More Than A Lot and everything from Sub Focus's album.

Lomax - Artisan (and the VIP)

seriously if I have to hear Time Warp played out on more time, I will turn the dancefloor into a bloodbath.

yeah, because he has to hear what i'm talking about. At this point its not a matter of if these tracks are good, its the point that they are played in abundance.

"Raves" shouldn't sound like the top 40 radio stations that play the same 20 songs on repeat. But if you guys want to argue against that i'm fine with it. I was just saying this to help.

I think its funny ebody sitting on here talking about how stuff is overplayed.... DO YOU KNOW WHY ITS OVERPLAYED???

Because everybody has "officially" gone DIGITAL...........

sry,  "the scene" did it to itself......

i've seen it happen esp over the past year 1 1/2yrs i been playin out.
showing up at stages to see 2cdj's and a mixer. or having your slot pushed around back and forth cause there isnt any turntables

using cdj's has made it possible for any 16yr old kid who goes to his first rave, fully capable of burning beatports top10 and carrying in a stack of essential mix cd's as they jump off the bus at the next rave able to play the second another dj cancels.

i know its not THAT fast, but the point is, the time it takes to become a dj NOW

vs

back in 99-00 when i first thought of spinning and looked at the price tag on a set of tables and mixer.

If you really wanna fight this
start bookin parties with only turntables
or go back TO VINYL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah there is serato..........
but tell me how many of these "new dj's" just have headphones and a stack of cd's

I would start to bitch more ABOUT THIS

but I'm having WAY TO MUCH FUN BUYING UP EVERYBODYS RECORDS THATS GIVIN UP THE VINYL WAY!!!!!!!!

PS I remember buying records, paying 7-15 even 20 for a track

you may have made it cheaper in your pockets to get tracks and play
but you also opened up a flood gate of fighting 5x more dj's who
can do it JUST AS FUCKIN CHEAP as YOU CAN TOO!!!!!
Congrats!!!!!!

Iv'e been carrying a record crate a long time, and im sick of the weight. Ill go back to ALL vinyl if you will come carry it for me every gig :o)

J/k But despite the arguments to be pretencious and say ima play all these tracks and its the last time they should be played... I still think that falls on the shoulders of the promoter. It's also the dj's resonsibility to interact with the crowd, and that doesn't go for just when your behind the platter. Talk to the newbs that are trying to play and doing it wrong. Offer up suggestions and guidance to these people instead of trying to be a public martyr. You will get better results. Talk to kids that are digging into what your playing, put together a mix with a tracklist and hand it out. So many other options than just playing a set and deeming these tracks banned.

Ha, that is definitely not it.  It definitely just comes down to promoters knowing who to book and WHY!

As a DJ, If you are complaining about noobs burning out your track selection then you are pretty fucking weak imo.

After Djing for almost 10 years, I can tell when someone has only been playing for 5.  And then when it comes to people who have only been playing for 1 or 2 years....lmao.    Track selection is whatever you make it and if you want to be unique then all you need to do is...

Dig more!

After years and years of being on the grind there is no way a noob should ever be able to sound like you.

there is so much truth to this statement that it's painful. I may have only just started DJ'ing but I've been listening to drum & bass for 5 years now and I've learned that a lot of the good stuff is buried underneath a bunch of garbage that gets pushed to the mainstream.

On the topic of digital vs vinyl...I gotta say, that digital DJ'ing did not bring about the unwarranted rinsing of the new bangers.  It's always been this way.  It was just more tolerated because the selectah was using vinyl.

It happens with every wave of anthems.  That's what happens with every music scene. Rock band makes a new hit? Radio station plays it till you want to kill yourself. New Lady Gaga hit? Guarantee it'll get played 2-3x every hour on the pop station for the next 6 months.

Point is, find DJs who keep their anthem usage to a minimum and you're golden.

Or stop spinning the same sound everyone else is.

Yeah I agree with this and if anything digital has helped things get varied.  I remember playing down at the bbt in like 03 and I'd be worried about who I was playing after, hoping they wouldn't play all the new tracks I just bought because everyone was purchasing tunes from the same source.  And it happened a lot.  Now I think dj's have a lot more options and it shows when the dj's are GOOD.  There is also the bad side of digital that we are talking about where you just go on Beatports top 100 in your genre a few days prior to your gig and drop those beats.  It's lame and you should be called out for your lack of imagination and laziness.  Promoters also have a lack of imagination and are lazy as they tend to book the same guys over and over again and this is what you have.  Anyway it's lame to blame the medium, blame the dj's/promoters themselves.  You don't suck because you play cd's you suck because you fucking suck.
