↑ View Original Post from KANDYPLUR No, you misunderstood. I'm playing these tracks to prove a point. There are so many newb dj's that are like "I like dubstep, i'm going to play where's my money, it's going to be hot."
You don't understand how many people still play these tracks like they're still hot.
It's not because i did it first. It's because people are over using these tracks. I don't play these tracks now. I played them last year when they came out. That shit is over, there is better stuff out now.
Come out sometime. You'll understand.

↑ View Original Post from rukkus I understand where you are coming from purely because of the tracks you are talking about in particular but I hate the attitude as a general thing. You are basically saying there is a shelf life for the tunes and when the expiration date hits, you have to delete that shit from your hard drive. If it is a good tune then you should be able to play it whenever I don't care. If you agree with that then maybe the problem is is that you shouldn't have been playing the tune in the first place because it's shit and where's my money is definitely shit, would never ever play it unless it was a joke. Don't care if I had it on dub.

dov, I think this is a bad idea.
1. 85% of your audience probably won't care. 2. 10% of us are going to shake our heads because we've heard the tracks too many times before. 3. 5% is going to go out and buy all of those tracks and start playing them.
I move through tracks pretty quick too... I put a "shelf life" on my picks because I like to keep on top of my game.
It's not like that for everyone and not everyone is educated enough to catch on.
Playing a 1 hr set like that is not going to change anything except possibly make you look stale. I'd go against it.

↑ View Original Post from rukkus No dude, i totally get what you are saying and the point you are trying to make. What you don't get is that there is only a small percentage of people that read this shit on lolli and the point you will make to the majority of listeners that don't read this is, "It's totally cool to play these tunes! I mean look at me I'm Doverspike king of the rave scene, i should know better but I'm doing it anyways because it's completely alright." Maybe to better prove your point you should never ever play these tunes again and chastise people that do? Or even better than that, promoters should be like "whoa this dj has no style lets book someone else next time." If you were trying to explain not to touch the hot stove to a child would you put ur hand on a hot skillet and pretend it didn't hurt like fuck?
Way to play the "Come out sometime. You'll understand." card! This is funny because if i did come out and i saw you play this set I'd realize that nothing has changed and I have no interest in coming out to hear where's my money and other played out tunes over and over again. I am guilty 100% of not coming out. No excuses, I need to come out more. I do come out to acts that i genuinely want to see though fair enough?
I'm not trying to start shit dude, i completely agree with you 100% on the idea that tunes should be steered clear from when they are "played out" and I'm just trying to make a suggestion on how to get your point out there. Do whatever you want though.
To everyone else discussing shelf life of tunes. I agree that tunes don't have a shelf life, some tunes are amazing and deserve to be played for decades to come. I think what's being discussed here is taking a break from certain tunes when they get played every party, multiple times, by the same unimaginative djs.

It's just funny you are going to play them all.
Show people you are on the next level by being there yourself.
People are smoking crack!!! I am going to hold a meeting where I smoke crack with everyone so that I can tell them how bad it is.

That shelf life doesn't jive with everyone but that's how I feel. I think it's because I started off with vinyl for the first 6 years and I wasn't able to move on as fast as i wanted too.
I look at this way... I'm not playing pink floyd or led zeplin. I'm playing dance music tracks. I don't know why but for me, the newer the better.
You're not going to see me dropping star 69 wtf, star dust the music sounds better with you or we alive any time soon. I did that already and moved on.
Don't get me wrong though I still like my older tunes, but for me I like to try to keep ahead of my game. I'll let other people drop the oldies.

no, send the memo to AC also. I hate you both. haha.
You are obviously not the problem here.
yeah, its basically me frustrated with the way that most of the newbs that play dubstep play these banger tracks and their sets are perceived as "good" because of it by ravers that know no better.
My plan was to do this at I <3 and wear a shirt that says I <3 played out tracks. Aaaaaaaaannnnnnnndd i'll probably still do this even though you guys make a strong point because i'm me and thats what i do. What i want.
Joey, i'm not king of the rave scene any more than you were in your hardcore days. I'm just a DJ that a lot of kids like right now, I don't have a big head about this. I just play what i like and that just so happens to be what other people like right now.
But I go to all these parties from the time they start til the time they're over because i have to. I am subject to listening to all the music and if i can get my point across to 25% of the people then i feel i accomplished something by letting them know that we ALL know that these are banger tracks, playing them every set even when you heard them twice from other people in the same genre the same night isn't acceptable.
I'll change it to an "Anthem" set and all will be ok then. amirite?
for real though, Where's my money made me leave 2 stages at Fall Massive.

I just read all this. I mean seriously. What DJ, even the most famed of famed has the right to say what can or cannot be played. Get off your high horse and get on the promoters that are booking shitty talent.
RIP Nerve Agent Recordings.
