IndepenDANCE
Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) ( Minus, Mute, Plus 8 ) http://www.richiehawtin.com :: http://www.plastikman.com :: http://www.m-nus.com Although he's technically a Canadian, Richie Hawtin will forever be associated with putting is beloved Detroit on the dance music map. Along with fellow Detroit pioneer Carl Craig, Hawtin helped break the second wave of Detroit techno. From north of Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, Hawtin has been a DJ, a producer, a record label owner, and a flag-waver for the underground Detroit scene which is only now getting the respect it deserves in the United States.
Barem ( Minus, Foundsound, Mo's Ferry ) Barem’s work is singularly deep and minimal with a timbral sensibility that is intermittently harmonic. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Part of the new breed of Detroit, Ryan has made a name for himself over the past year with his floor friendly livesets and releases on Trapez, Telegraph and M_nus under his alias Berg Nixon. Drawing from the likes of Matthew Dear, Magda and Ricardo Villalobos, his percussive often shuffle style of techno makes him one to watch for the future.
Ambivalent ( Minus, Klickhaus, Clink, Leftroom ) Kevin McHugh aka Ambivalent aka micromini has been maximally engaged in New York's electronic music culture for some years now. He's been a minimal tour de force working as a promoter, event producer, DJ, and recording artist. His work as a promoter and event organizer dates back to 2000 for some of the most memorable parties in NYC. Most recently, Kevin has been putting out records under the Ambivalent moniker; with releases on Clink, Clickhaus and M_nus.
